The Night Before Trekmas

Life in retail has been so chaotic this past week (and will only get worse in the next few days) that I didn't get a chance to really prepare anything, so I dug up a Facebook post I made in December of 2012, shortly before this blog even existed. Whatever holiday you celebrate during this time of year, which are actually far more numerous than just Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa, or even if you don't celebrate anything except spending time with your family and friends, I hope you all have fun and enjoy whatever festivities or gatherings you'll be attending.

'Twas the night before Trekmas, when all through the ship
The Borg were all stirring, looking to cause mischief.
Their implants were ready and tuned with great care,
For they all knew that Voyager soon would be there.

The crew were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sensor readings danced in their heads.
And Janeway in her nightgown, with Q nowhere in sight,
Had just settled her brain and turned in for the night.

When out on the bridge there arose such a clatter,
She sprang from her bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the closet she flew in a dash,
Tore open the door and was clothed in a flash.

A cube on the screen gave off a green glow
And Janeway knew this was no friend, but a foe.
When, what to her critical eyes should appear,
But a cluster of Borg drones, and the crew shook with fear.

“Resistance is futile”, they said as they advanced,
Janeway was tired of this same song and dance.
More rapid than phasers they closed in all around,
And they murmured and muttered and said this aloud:

"We are the Borg, we wish you no harm;
We want only your mind”, and they extended their arms.
Tubules came out of the tops of their hands
Then Neelix came forth wielding his pots and his pans.

“Now just you see here”, he called out with a cry,
“You cannot have us. The Captain won’t let that fly.”
They said not a word, but turned 'round to face him,
His eyes grew wide, knowing his chances were slim.

And then, in a twinkling, Q appeared with a POOF!
“Why Kate, what is this? It looks like a coup!”
Janeway just scowled and massaged her forehead,
“Are you here to help, or to help us get dead?”

He tsked, “Ah-ah-ah! You know better than that”,
And he snapped and the Borg drones all became cats.
“Well, that was simple”, Janeway said with a smirk,
“But you’ll never outmaneuver good ol' James T. Kirk.”

“The Carbomite Maneuver? Oh please, what a joke!
Kate, I just saved your life; my heart is now broke.”
Janeway rolled her eyes and muttered a thanks,
But when Q moved in for a kiss, she threatened a shank.

He chuckled and smiled, so pleased with the game,
“Kathy, I’ll get you yet. Just you wait.”
He snapped and was gone in the blink of an eye,
But alas! Something had gone terribly awry!

The Borg cats were gone, but replaced with red roses,
And little puppy dogs with such cold, wet noses.
Heart-shaped balloons filled the bridge on all sides,
And Janeway sat down in her chair with a sigh.

She woke from this dream, sitting up with a jerk,
And sighed in relief, then gave a slight smirk.
It was morning again, time to start a new day,
So she dressed and prepared and hurried away.

She sat in her chair, to her crew gave the order,
And away they all flew to the Risian border.
And this she exclaimed, ‘ere they warped out of sight,
"Shore leave for all, engage, and good flight!"

The Twelve Days of Geekmas

Working in Retail, I find it difficult to really get into anything resembling a "festive"  mood this time of year since I've typically been bombarded with music and decorations since about late September/early October. However, I still try to have fun with it even though I'm ready for all this hubbub to be over, so I present to you (with instrumental musical accompaniment!) The Twelve Days of Geekmas:

Twelve Doctors running

Eleven Orcs attacking

Ten Rebels plotting

Nine Roosters dying

Eight Tributes pledging

Seven Vampires feeding

Six Reavers chasing

Five Magic rings

Four Cylon spies

Three Robots march

Two Pirates fuss

And the crew of the Enterprise D

Same Name - Music

On Facebook, I'm part of a huge geeky group called the Promenade and the other day someone started a topic of discussion about songs with the same name that are completely different and by different music artists. Since the group has well over 6,000 members, there were plenty of replies and it was really interesting to see what people thought of. Being a music geek myself, I thought it would be a great way to find out about different songs and music stylings, so I do encourage you guys to comment below with any you know of that I don't include (you don't need a Google account to comment, by the way).

With just 10 different titles, there are 25 different songs listed and the only commonality is the title, and clicking on the artist names will let you hear each one. Be sure to add any you know of that I may have missed in the comments below!

*These songs have additional title wording. For Halestorm: (So Do I); for Rupert Holmes: (The Pina Colada Song).

Craft TIME

Howdy Ya'll

So y'll know I love me some crafts, my new current addiction is Duct Tape crafts, So today I will show ya'll how to make Duct Tape Bows.

Supplies

  • Duct Tape (Duck Tape brand is what i recommend)
  • Scissors
  • X-Acto Knife
  • Cutting Mat

For this bow I will use Star Wars and Red

1. Cut 6 strip 4 1/2 ich long.

2. Take the strip and place it on top of the same color ( I found if you use the lines on the cutting board and line up both bottom you get a better lineament)

3. Trim off stickies and make the all even.

4. Cut a small strip about 2 1/2 inch ( this will be the middle part so choose wisely the color)

5.Cut about inch strip  I made two just in case
 6. Fold in half

 8. When fold in half, fold each side  backwards
( almost like folding those fan we did as kids)

 9. Put the Together and find the middle

10. Use that piece of tape we cut earlier to wrap around it.

Volia! We made a Duct Tape Bow Tie.  You can hot glue a hair pin to it, or attach to a headband or create a collar and wear it as bow tie. Up to you.

Writing Prompts Part Deux

I have a touch of writer's block again, so I figured I might do another fun prompt. This time, I chose number 211: Write from the point of view of a clean sock that was mistakenly placed in the hamper.

Ugh! Why did he have to do that? He just tossed me in here like I was a pair of skid-marked underwear! And now I'm laying on his grody skid-marked underwear... Oh god, if I had a stomach, I'd be puking right now. It smells so bad in here! I was fresh and ready to slip onto his foot, but NOOOOOOOOO! Heaven forbid he take the time to check me out and see that I was clean. Well, we'll see about this. I may just have to talk to the dryer and see if it can help me disappear. That'd show him! Let's see how he likes having just one sock, that bipedal neanderthal!

Shopping For The Geek(s) In Your Life

As much as we don't want to face it, especially myself since I work in Retail, Thanksgiving/Grey Thursday/Black Friday/Hanukkah/Christmas is literally just around the corner. To get a jump on snagging those perfect gifts that send fanboys and fangirls into a fit of pure geek ecstasy, I've decided to assist in finding that One Perfect Thing (or even Things) for the geek(s) in your life.

  • Though the ReAction Firefly figures are already out and available for purchase, the Funko Pop! Firefly figures are available for pre-order on EntertainmentEarth.com and are set to be released next month. Entertainment Earth also has a vast listing of various prop replicas, patches, collectible figures, etc. from other sci-fi shows and movies.
  • Tee Fury, TeeMinus24, ShirtoidCosmic City TeesRedBubble and Etsy are great places to find your geek's favorite fandoms AND support indie artists and crafters.
  • If your geek is an avid gamer, and you know their platform of choice, PSN cards, Xbox cards, or gift cards for PC games (and there are SO many, so there's really not one particular link I can share) might be a good way to go.
  • For the comic book collectors, a Marvel subscription or DC subscription (or any of the other various publishing companies) might be a nice surprise. Looking for something new the big names don't have? No worries: IndyPlanet carries lots of indie titles [shameless plug/example: Rachel Strand and Equinox from Equinox Comics].
  • If your geek LOVES TOS-era Star Trek, and you happen to live in or plan to travel through Oklahoma, check out Starbase Studios in Oklahoma City. Be sure to utilize the contact page ahead of time if you'd like a tour [this might make a better Birthday present].

If you feel I've left anything out, please feel free to comment. I look forward to reading your gift suggestions!

Note to the Readers:

You may have noticed the blog has a new-ish name. TXTrekkieGurl, formerly Dalek Chick, has felt it best if she streamlined all of her activities under one name, and she goes by TXTrekkieGurl on Trek Radio and Twitter so she decided to go by that here.
