NaNoWriMo - if you look around Twitter and Facebook, you may see this jumble of upper- and lower-case letters and wonder: what the heck is it?
NaNoWriMo, or in it's long form, National Novel Writing Month, began on the 1st and encourages people all over the world to create a 50,000-word rough draft of a novel within the month of November. The site helps keep track of word count, rewards badges for participation, and provides helpful resources to aid writers in their month-long writing adventure.
Additionally, NaNoWriMo is a non-profit organization with the goal of encouraging writers of all ages from all over the world of all levels of experience to do just that: write. Their mission statement:
"National Novel Writing Month organizes events where children and adults find the inspiration, encouragement, and structure they need to achieve their creative potential. Our programs are web-enabled challenges with vibrant real-world components, designed to foster self-expression while building community on local and global levels."
