Writing Prompts Part Deux

 I have a touch of writer's block again, so I figured I might do another fun prompt. This time, I chose number 211: Write from the point of view of a clean sock that was mistakenly placed in the hamper.


Ugh! Why did he have to do that? He just tossed me in here like I was a pair of skid-marked underwear! And now I'm laying on his grody skid-marked underwear... Oh god, if I had a stomach, I'd be puking right now. It smells so bad in here! I was fresh and ready to slip onto his foot, but NOOOOOOOOO! Heaven forbid he take the time to check me out and see that I was clean. Well, we'll see about this. I may just have to talk to the dryer and see if it can help me disappear. That'd show him! Let's see how he likes having just one sock, that bipedal neanderthal!

Hello my Fellow Geeks and Geekettes,

          I recently started to become of more a gamer, so I have been playing Civilization V and a new game I just purchase call Tropico 5.  I hang out on Caspian Division Teamspeak and listen to them play Star Trek Online. If ya’ll don’t know what Teamspeak  is a program  where you a talk to people all around the world who share the same interest as you, You  talk to other while you play a games. So I have started to catch on to the langue of a Gamer. Mainly MMO (massively multiplayer online)

Shopping For The Geek(s) In Your Life

As much as we don't want to face it, especially myself since I work in Retail, Thanksgiving/Grey Thursday/Black Friday/Hanukkah/Christmas is literally just around the corner. To get a jump on snagging those perfect gifts that send fanboys and fangirls into a fit of pure geek ecstasy, I've decided to assist in finding that One Perfect Thing (or even Things) for the geek(s) in your life.

• Though the ReAction Firefly figures are already out and available for purchase, the Funko Pop! Firefly figures are available for pre-order on EntertainmentEarth.com and are set to be released next month. Entertainment Earth also has a vast listing of various prop replicas, patches, collectible figures, etc. from other sci-fi shows and movies.
• Tee Fury, TeeMinus24, Shirtoid, Cosmic City Tees, RedBubble and Etsy are great places to find your geek's favorite fandoms AND support indie artists and crafters.
• If your geek is an avid gamer, and you know their platform of choice, PSN cards, Xbox cards, or gift cards for PC games (and there are SO many, so there's really not one particular link I can share) might be a good way to go.
• For the comic book collectors, a Marvel subscription or DC subscription (or any of the other various publishing companies) might be a nice surprise. Looking for something new the big names don't have? No worries: IndyPlanet carries lots of indie titles [shameless plug/example: Rachel Strand and Equinox from Equinox Comics].
• If your geek LOVES TOS-era Star Trek, and you happen to live in or plan to travel through Oklahoma, check out Starbase Studios in Oklahoma City. Be sure to utilize the contact page ahead of time if you'd like a tour [this might make a better Birthday present].

Charity Charity Charity

Hello my Fellow Geeks and Geekettes!

 This month it has been all about Charity work!

I went to my first Can’t Stop the Serenity Charity   this past Sunday, Yes I did dress up as Kaylee and had a blast! I was with my awesome folks from North Texas Cosplay. We all were dress up of course. It was held at my new favorite movie theater, The Alamo Drafthouse,  they were so  welcoming and even made us a special  menu that fitted into the screening. Like Mudder’s Milk and firefly ser a tea. 

Can’t Stop the Serenity, is a charity event to help raise money for Equality Now, an organization the works for the protection and promotion of the human rights of women and girls around the world.  We had raffle drawing, mystery brown bags and Auction all to raise money. We got to watch Dr Horrible sing along blog and Serenity the movie on the big screen as part of the deal! 

Just from our event we raise $10,000. That is amazing! Since this start everyone around the world has raise $900.000 which was back in 2006.

Howdy!

 As you read this, I will be in knee deep into Tax Free weekend, please say a prayer or send good vibes to me.  

Recently I went and saw Guardians o f the Galaxy, Actually I say it twice.   To described the movie think Star Wars, and Firefly meet Avengers.  You love 80’s music you would also enjoy this movie. 

The CGi was pretty good; Rocket was real like you couldn't tell it was CGI like some movies do.  Goot looked awesome and when he does specials things it was clear and crisped.   Al the character work great together, through trying to get Karen Gillian as Amy Pond out of my head took awhile, But Michael Rooker character was just like his Walking Dead Character.   One thing was star Lord wasn't too funny I didn't really like him until closer to the end of the movie. 

I  not sure what else I  can say, the movie is awesome and  I highly recommend the movie.

Top 5 Historical Events That Are More Than Just Movies

I've been a bit of a History geek since 8th grade. My teacher at the time made it fun and interesting; he'd traveled all across the U.S. and collected various things, especially from the Civil War. I still keep in touch with him via social media and he's still quite the History geek himself.

Recently another friend of mine shared a link with me showcasing tweets from people who didn't realize some movies exist that are based on actual historical events, thus inspiring today's post.

5. Guy Fawkes

Most people see the Fawkes-inspired mask and instantly think of the film based on Alan Moore's graphic novel, V for Vendetta. What some people don't know is that Guy "Guido" Fawkes was a real person. Born in 1570 to Edward and Edith Fawkes in Stonegate, York, Fawkes grew up to become the infamous vigilante upon whom the title character of Moore's graphic novel is based. Fawkes was involved in a plot, now known as the Gunpowder Plot, to assassinate the Protestant King James. He and other conspirators attempted to blow up Parliament, but the plot was foiled when a letter warning fellow Catholics of the intended "terrible blowe" was discovered and brought to King James's attention.


4. Pearl Harbor

Aside from being a 2001 film directed by Michael Bay, the attack on Pearl Harbor occurred on December 7th in 1941. Attacking in two waves, the Japanese launched bombers, torpedo planes, and fighters from six aircraft carriers in a preventative strategic attack to keep the U.S. Pacific Fleet from interfering in the Japanese Empire's plans to take military actions against  U.S., U.K., and Netherlands territories. Eight damaged U.S. Navy battleships, three cruisers, three destroyers, an anti-aircraft training ship, and a minelayer were all either sunk or damaged; 188 aircraft were completely destroyed. 2,403 Americans died while another 1,178 were wounded. Until that point, the U.S. had not been directly involved in World War Two.


3. Pirates

While this isn't a particular historical event, pirates are much more than a staggering buffoon with a soft spot for rum and a ship with black sails. Maritime piracy, defined as an act of robbery or criminal violence at sea, dates back to about the 14th century BC. Another historic example of piracy is privateers, or corsairs, which were basically pirates with government permission (letters of marque) to attack foreign ships during wartime.


2. Chernobyl

Aside from being the setting for a cheesy horror flick and another place for John McClane to beat bad guys, the meltdown of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine on April 26th of 1986 remains one of the largest events in History. Reactor four had a massive power increase, which caused explosions in its core. The explosions allowed for the dispersal of radioactive fuel and core materials into the atmosphere, that, in turn, ignited the combustible graphite moderator, increasing the emission of radioactive particles. The city of Pripyat was evacuated the next day on April 27th and no one has lived in the area since. The Exclusion Zone (30 km or 19 mi) remains in place today.


1. Titanic

Nearly 85 years before Rose and Jack "flew" on the bow of the ship, the RMS Titanic sank in the North Atlantic Ocean after hitting an iceberg on its maiden voyage. The collision created holes in the hull under the waterline, causing five of the vessel's previously watertight compartments to take on water, and the "practically unsinkable" Titanic began sinking bow-first. Nearly three hours after striking the iceberg, the liner began sinking faster as the forward deck dipped under water, causing the water to flow in through open hatches and grates. As the stern came up out of the water, the ship began to break in two due to strain on the keel.

What do Norman Bates, Leatherface, and Jame Gumb have in common? Aside from being fictional killers, they're all inspired by one man: Ed Gein.
