Tips and Tricks for Conventions

Hello fellow Geeks and Geekettes,

As convention season is in full swing now, I figure I would give you some more tip and tricks that I have use for going to conventions.  Yes, I know that I have done some Top 10 list for convention but I wanted to give ya’ll more!
1)      Always  try and drink plenty of water before the convention, I have a bad habit of forgetting to drink lots of water couple of days before hand and end up dehydrated by the on the convention.   Mainly because you are so busy you forget to drink water or eat.

2)      Start packing your bag a few days before hand if you can, that way you can think of things throughout the week to add rather than on the ride to the convention.

3)      If you are going to cosplay I high suggest getting a friend to be your “handler” meaning to either hold or watching your stuff so when you are ask for photos it will be safe. Also  they can help you with you cosplay needs.

4)      Check to see if your Convention has a “ Day 0”   this  depend on the convention, “ Day 0” usually means  you can pick up your badges  and get layout on the Con.

5)      Wear comfortable clothing, having comfortable shoe is a must! You will be walking a lot! (Extra Tip: Bring a sweater , most of the Panels room get cold)

6)      Be ready for the weather , you never know if you will be stand outside  or not

7)      Look into the weapons Policies, each convention have different rules about weapons.

8)      Look at the schedule and plan ahead, most schedules  are post at least 2 weeks before the con

9)      Bring Cash, most vendors will take cards but you don’t want to risk it.

10)   Always make sure you have enough money to pay  hotel fee Examples: Room, Parking,

Bonus and most important! HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stay Shiny

What is a nerd?

I originally intended to make a post about E3 and have a game list and talk about everything Microsoft said, then took back. However, at the absolute last minute (almost), I had a change of mind. Today's post has nothing directly to do with video games or electronics; in fact, the very topic is stated in the title: what is a nerd?

This month, I'm assuming as a way to try to lighten the mood as we prepare for Inventory, my place of employment is giving us themed days and this past Thursday was "Nerd Day". I knew exactly what I would see: co-workers with taped glasses, short pants, and button-down shirts; that stereotypical Revenge of the Nerds look. I, on the other hand, decided to take the road less traveled; I wore a Marvel girls shirt, a light-saber necklace, a chain with the One Ring on it, a com-badge pin, and my Firefly lanyard. That's about how I'd normally dress. I don't wear button-down shirts or ill-fitting pants, nor do my glasses have tape on them.

The word nerd is defined as:
  1. a stupid, irritating, ineffectual, or unattractive person.
  2. an intelligent, but single-minded person obsessed with a nonsocial hobby or pursuit.
It is unknown how the word was derived, but is listed as originating as an Americanism sometime in 1960-1965. That definition hardly fits any of the people I know who prefer to label themselves as such. I know plenty of self-professed nerds who have many hobbies, from reading to crafting to working with computers to gaming - and the list goes on. We're far from being this anti-social and goofy stereotype: just think of how many various conventions happen at any given time in any part of the world and how many people attend and make lasting friendships. We enjoy gathering with others who share our passions and hobbies and celebrating each other and just having a fun time.

In short, us nerds (or geeks, if you so prefer) come in a variety of unique flavors. We each have our gifts and talents, the things in which we excel. We also have our weaknesses and a lot of us are constantly looking for ways to strengthen ourselves and stay true to ourselves while pursuing the things that make us happy, the things that pique our curiosity, the things we desire to better understand.

So what is a nerd? We are the ones who never stop learning, who never stop growing, who never take "no" as a definitive answer. We are the ones who will change the world, for better or for worse.
(Our aim is for better though, I promise. It's kind of a trial-and-error thing.)

The Red Rains of Castamere [Contains Spoilers - Reader Discretion Advised]

Red Wedding by ~FatherStone on deviantART

It’s almost difficult to imagine how the season three finale of Game of Thrones could possibly top the most recent episode, “The Rains of Castamere”.

If you have not watched it, now is your chance to turn back. Everything after this is going to be filled with blood and spoilers – and I mean that in every way imaginable.

This week brought the moment avid Game of Thrones fans were waiting to see: The Red Wedding. Walder Frey failed to spare even the littlest Stark in his anger at Robb and quite a few viewers were upset by the added casualties of Talisa and baby Stark, more notably the repeated stabbing of her pregnant belly. Even as I'm working on this post, people are still taking to Twitter to mourn the losses:

Even folks on Tumblr are still upset, and understandably so: Sunday's episode revealed the deaths of Robb Stark, Catelyn (Tully) Stark, Grey Wind, Talisa, and Baby Stark - whom Talisa decided would be named Eddard if it turned out to be a boy, after Robb's father Ned.

Some fans of the novels had a little fun with their unsuspecting viewer friends and turned their cameras on for a bit of YouTube gold:

So what comes next for Thrones? The season three finale airs on Sunday, June 9th at 9pm EST. In the meantime, here's a preview of the season finale, "Mhysa":

Interview with Adam Baldwin.

Hello All fellow geeks!

As you read this I ( Dalek Chick) Is at A-Kon , yes yet again another convention! This time it’s an anime convention, no I am not really anime person but there is a big Doctor Who following and I really enjoy all the crazy cosplayers.

As all of you know I got to do an interview with Adam Baldwin at Dallas Comic Con, for Trek Radio. (The internet radio station I work for) Anyways, one of the DJ(thanks Randall!) worked really hard to edit it for me and I just wanted to share you my interview. You can go hereto listen to it.

Some funny facts about when I did this interview, we went behind the scene to the green room and well the green room was too noisy (a/c units running) so we walk down the hall and went into the Stairwell and Adam goes “I sound like god in here”.  I was on the phone with Deyvid( another DJ) , well being in the stairwell  I wasn't getting strong signal so we  ended up going out to the back of the convention out in the middle of the parking lot to do my interview. We were rush and only had like 10mins so it a short interview.

I really enjoy doing this interview and want to say Thank you again to Adam Baldwin for letting me interview him! Also, to my dad who help set up this interview!

Stay Geeky
