Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion are teaming up once again to present a series that centers upon Sci-Fi conventions. An Indiegogo campaign was launched on March 10th and runs through April 10th, though as of about 3pm CDT on March 11th the initial goal of $425,000 was met to produce three episodes. They're wanting fans to have a hand in helping this new show find its legs, stating:
"The most important reason to use Indiegogo is that we have genuinely passionate, stalwart and powerful fans. We’ve even seen fans get movies made. We realized pretty quickly we ought to cut out the middle management and just get you involved as soon as possible. We’ll have more fun having you on board this early in the process, and we know you’d love to see what we’re up to along the way. Not to mention, sci-fi conventions wouldn’t exist without you. You built this world but you’ve only seen one half of it. You know the carnival, let us introduce you to the carnies."
The premise of the show is that Wray Nerely [Tudyk] was on a short-lived Sci-Fi show called 'Spectrum' and now attends conventions as often as possible, although he struggles to get steady work in his career a decade later. Meanwhile, his former co-star Jack Moore [Fillion] has hit it big and is a constant reminder of everything Wray wishes he could have achieved. Other familiar faces to watch for include Sean Maher, Gina Torres, James Gunn, Seth Green, Felicia Day, and Amy Acker.
Upon surpassing the initial goal, the stretch goals are (as well as perks for each):
- $500,000 | Access to private Instagram accounts
- $575,000 | One more episode; 'Spectrum' wallpapers and avatars to all funders
- $650,000 | Digital 'Spectrum' comic pages to all funders
- $725,000 | One more episode; collector cards expanded to four
As of 5:30pm CDT on March 11th the campaign had raised $706,384, and by 11:40am CDT on March 14th they reached the $1,750,000 goal, the amount needed to fund the entire first season - further proof that you can't stop the signal.
